What is the best floating material to build a houseboat.?

I would like to build a houseboat about 10 feet wide by 20 feet long and i know a raft floats if you stand on it but wont hold much weight and isn't very strong. What material should i use and then i will build the house part and place it on top of the floating bottom of the boat, and add a 150 horse motor to power it. Or would i be better off buying a houseboat? Thanks

i would check around first, you might be better off buying a run down housebopat and fixing it up--- if you were to build one aluminum pontoons are the best, however can you weld alum, it is very expensive to have this work done. Also a 150 hp might be a little too large for that size houseboat, your not water skiing from it just need to get around. good luck
