Is living on a canal boat a good idea for a student?

I am getting to the point in school where im thinking about universities and student life. I was hoping to get into a uni near a canal so i could live on a canal boat. My parents after renting one for a holiday say they will buy me a one if they can use it in the summer hols. Anyway if somehow i did get some money from somewhere and buy one. Would anyone who has had the experience of either canal boats or student life please give me some advice. Thanks

Sounds like a great idea!

I have lived on a narrowboat and been a student although not at the same time.

You would need to find a residential mooring close to your university, which may be tricky but not impossible. British Waterways will be able to help you with that.

For more information on buying a narrowboat look here http://www.abclg.com/boats_for_sale.htm
