How does the french health care system work? can you provide some details?

1) What is the general tax that workers pay to fund society's health care pool? What percentage of your gross paycheck is it? do employers pay a tax towards that too?
2) How much does a working french citizen who is enrolled in the national health care insurance plan have to pay as monthly premiums?
3) If someone has no job and is either laid off, too old to work, too disabled to work etc...do they have insurance coverage and do not have to pay a premium?
4) What about coverage on children....how much do the parents have to pay to enroll their children?
5) If your knee is hurting from playing sports and you go see a doctor and he tells you need to have an X ray of your knee, how much will this viist cost you out of pocket in france. What if that doctor then refers you to a specialist, how much will that visit cost?
6) If you need a root canal in France, how much will you have to pay?? I know in the USA a root canal can cost as much as $900.

Please answer my question in detail if you can because I am trying to understand better how health care is different in other countries from that of the USA.

I don't know what their taxes are (more than ours for sure) but all your other examples the answer is $0.00. 100% free and it's ranked #1 level of care in the world.
